I have been working hard on completing two pieces over recent weeks in between everything else in life that demands my attention, and I have been successful in getting the work done. Something that has been at the forefront of my mind recently has been memories of my time as a student. I have been thinking back to my college days and wondering what became of my tutors and teachers. Yes, at my age I have to expect that many of them are now long gone, but looking back from this distance I have a greater appreciation of them now than perhaps I did as a younger man. This is, I think, part of growing up or indeed growing old. When we are young we rarely fully appreciate, and often take for granted, that which we are presented with. There were a few particularly influential people who taught me, Cecilia Vajda, Mervyn Burtch and Anthony Lewis to name but three. The first two are well represented by their internet legacy (see the links on my About page), but the man who taught me harmony, counterpoint and keyboard harmony as well as being my course tutor was more difficult to find. In the end I found an article rightly praising Mr Lewis’s career and achievements and I include a link here to the Wales Online website for your interest: https://share.google/x0dNzU09ubGT6igfD
