It is one of those quite exciting periods of time when you hand your work over to others for the finishing touches prior to publication. In some ways the work is done, yet there is that nagging uncertainty about the whole affair whilst you wait to see the proofs. Monday is proof day, and if time allows I shall get the website up to date too. I am something of a slave to tradition in some ways, and see no reason to discard the good things we have inherited and sacrifice them on the alter of rebellion just for the sake of being different. Why should we not continue to use the old forms and structures hanging our modern vocabulary on tried and tested foundations? This is what I have done with this new piece Suite for Trumpet, I have taken the 4 traditional staple dances of the Baroque suite (allemande, courante, sarabande and gigue) and fashioned a 4 movement solo work for the progressing intermediate or advanced player. This work will be a useful and unusual addition to any player’s repertoire and will be both informative and enjoyable to play and hear.
