It is good to be back into the school term after the summer holiday because I am beginning to find my routine again. Having said this, it does mean that my diary has suddenly filled with dates for concerts and all my weekends are spoken for until November. This is good. It means there is live music thriving out there in spite of all the pressures modern life puts on the arts. To misquote Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park, “Art finds a way”. Last Saturday saw a fabulous concert performed by the Academy of St Olaves Orchestra in York. Just as in the aforementioned film the concert was played out to the steady shimmer of torrential rain on the church roof, but the good people of York turned out to fill the church. It was my first time playing Sibelius’s 7th Symphony (what an awesome piece) and I sincerely hope I have the opportunity to play it again one day. I am also delighted that the new term has seen an increase of sales of Core Skills Brass.
