You can’t play a rotary trumpet one handed!

One of my favourite venues, the Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall at York University.

This was the Thirsk Royal British Legion Band in its infancy back in the late 1980s. The band is still going strong nearly 40 years since I founded it with the help of George Scaife (Back row 2nd left), Bob Petrie (Back row2nd Right) and my life long best friend Charles Clark (Sadly not in this picture). I don’t know who to credit this picture to, but it was a band member or supporter.

Another photograph of yours truly with Thirsk Royal British Legion Band in the 1980s. Charles Clark, one of the co-founders, is on the left of the back row.

On 18th September 2022 there was a National Moment of Reflection in the United Kingdom and many communities gathered at 8pm on the eve of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral to pause, remember and give thanks for her long life of selfless service to the country and Commonwealth. I was privileged to be the person who played the Last Post in Thirsk Market Place that night.
